Just when I thought things couldn't get any worse, the crap really hits the fan.

Now what? How do you clear up a mess as big as this?

Is there any coming back from absolute chaos?

I have to believe in hope. I have to believe in my love for Death, for a future beyond this pain and drama.

But why does hope feel like such a foolish dream at this point? Damn.

An ending is coming...

I just hope I survive it.

I had a great time listening to this series. The narration is performed well, and the story is engaging. The overarching plot was interesting, but I think the final chapter was a tiny bit anticlimactic. I wanted something more sensational from a story that had so much emotional upheaval. The final resolution also seemed unbalanced to me. Life needs a counter and I want to know why Marcel's brother was so obsessed with Resident Evil 4. I don't play zombie games because of the horrible nightmares I have. How is this game relevant to the book?

I wouldn't mind another book in this series. I want to see what happens to the rest of the necromancers in the future. I definitely want more of Cooper North's narration.

Good story. Good narration.

like another reviewer said, these books were dragged out way too long and there was lots of stuff that could have been cut out of them. I really enjoyed the characters and the overall story, it would have just been a little better I think as one book or at most two. Glad to finally get to the resolution, but if you're like me and have to finish a story, maybe don't start this one unless it is included with your audible membership. I will say the resolution was very satisfying. I just wish it had been more concise.

a series that should have been one book

I read all the books, so I clearly enjoyed the story. But I don’t care for series with books that have no conclusion and should really be one book. This last book finally ties up all the ends, and not does so very quickly. Books two and three really shouldn’t exist. Books two, three and four should really have been one book. Anyway it’s over now and I won’t be reading anything else by this author. I don’t trust the author.

Finally the conclusion to this series that should have been a book

This series is a truly beautiful (and a good bit tragic) story. I love the two MC's, they are wonderfully complex and based in a realistic view of who we are as real people. There is a heavy dose of body horror, so be aware of that going in. The story overall has a ton of ups and downs (so many downs) but there is a HEA for our two lovebirds. The big bads really provoke strong emotion (a sign of a good story teller), the side characters are so love-able/hate-able depending on the character. There were plot twists, shake-ups, and just truly glorious world building.

Shout out to the narrator: Not sure if he is actually from the UK (though based on other stories they've narrated, I think not) wonderful accent (as a non-UK person), exceptional expression of emotion, and just overall pleasant voice. I will say, if you're like me and have the volume up to 100%, you can hear them swallow - its faint but there, for those who have sensory issues with that. That, for me, didn't take away from the performance AT ALL. (I note that ONLY for those who may not be able to ignore that).

If you love your MM paranormal romances with HEAs but not too basic and predictable, this is the one for you! 10,000 out of 10 RECOMMEND!

[Spoilers lovelies]

I will note the only issue I struggled with is female side characters getting killed off. That was not my favorite. However, their characters were not shallow characters and did provoke the appropriate (and I think, intended) reactions. It did not take away from the experience significantly for me. I will add that the trigger warnings are a bit lacking, but as a sensitive individual, the few things I look out for are: no rape however an implied moment of thinking there would be non-consenting sex, accepting world views of MM/queer relationships, there is emotional trauma, body horror, and so much violence and death.

A wonderful story
