For once, I thought being an orphaned slave would keep safe. Yet when the dragon princes come for their promised bride, Lady Cordelia, they take me too. Why? Because they are immortal assholes who like to hoard.

But when Cordelia is killed, the dragons have a big problem: If they return without a human mate, they’ll lose their throne.

So we strike a deal. I play bride in exchange for my freedom. All I must do is survive the bridal trials, manage the mating mechanics, and remember that dragon royals are killers, not friends.

All I must do is not fall in love.

Dragons’ Captive takes place in Lunos, the world of Alex Lidell’s best-selling Power of Five novels. Expect spice, potent fae magic, fated-mate bonds, powerful dragon shifters, and a fake relationship that turns all too real. Ready to be stolen away alongside Kit? Then listen to Dragons’ Captive now!

I am enjoying the lore and story of this series thus far (I'm about half way through the second book), but man the narrators do not seem to be in to the story at all. The female narrator has gotten better in book two by scores, but the male narrator just seems to be going through the motions and is a bit robotic.
The books are relatively short and we seem to be blazing through things, but I am still invested and feel like I need to see it through to the end.

Story is engaging, narration is mid

Excellent world and character building! Sparks fly and intrigue weaves through story. Action and chemistry leap off the pages. Will be looking for more Alex Liddell books if they are all like this. Loved it and added to favorites.

So, why just add to WISH LIST?

This is one of those series that you will want to BINGE. Book four doesn’t release in Paperback until Summer 2024!

I didn’t realize that when I started as only 2 books showed up on Audible. I actually gasped when book 2 ended on a flippin cliffhanger! Luckily, book 3 was on Audible, not sure why it wasn’t with rest of series.

Save yourself THAT TRAUMA 🤣

If you are like me and HATE waiting months for the next book, set the first 3 in your Wish List and mark your calendar for the release of the 4th.

I'll start with the negative: As far as an installment in Lunos, Dragons' Captive is unfortunately the weakest as far as catching my attention. The plot is a little redundant to previous books, and the direction is rather predictable. As this is book one, it will be interesting to see how it evolves and grows.

Now, the positive: Dragons' Captive is expanding a universe that we have seen two pieces of so far. This new kingdom is much grittier than we have met with, and the rules that its people live by are newer to us. We do return to the days of yore feeling, versus Last Chance Reform's modern world. This is nostalgic of Lera, but as the main characters tend to fall into the immortal category it's hard to say how much overlap of worlds we will get.

While not as strong as the original Lunos quartet, Dragons' Captive does add some new aspects to the universe via the Princes, and I for one am along for the ride.

Next Chapter in the Lunos Universe

I love Alex’s books both fantasy and military. Too bad not all of them are available in audible. On to book two.

Another great listen

Both the female and male narrator are great, but not having duet narration to make full use that should be a crime.

Should have been duet narration
