A bloody revolution. Hard choices. Fatal consequences.

Sophie Arundel is stranded in a parallel universe, stuck in a grand house in an alternate 1925 England. Thankfully, she has her faithful dog, Charlotte. Oh, and Hugo Harrington who is stranded too—and Sophie’s fallen for him, head over heels.

Hugo’s entirely uninterested, but Sophie has bigger problems.

As a revolution threatens the Manor and everyone in it, Sophie finds the hidden portal to the twenty-first century. When she opens it, one man’s deadly secret will be exposed.

And he’ll kill to stop her.

Rosalind Tate's second book in the Shorten Chronicles is perfect for fans of Deborah Harkness and Stephenie Meyer!

I love this series. Its only book 2 and I've lost sleep listening. Can't wait to start book 3.

Even though I had lukewarm feelings about the first book in this trilogy, I am a sucker for time travel stories, so I bought the second book. Very glad I did. Much more forward movement in this novel, with plot elements resolved and new ones begun. A few things really strained credulity, but not critically so. Fun read/listen!

Sequel is better than the first!

The premise, or the idea is great. The characters are likeable, and then it goes down hill. I felt a 5th grader was writing the story. There was not set-up, times were messed up. For instance you are at dinner in the book and all of sudden people are fighting each other with incoming militia, and the main characters end up hiding in the priest hole, then someone dies, and then you get the description of what tea dress to wear with or without the corset, several times in the book, then there is a stupid love triangle. Does my review read like a mess, well, if you feel that way, that is exactly how the book reads? Good start, extremely poor writing style and frustrating development, poor execution. How did this pass by the editor?.
YIKES! good thing it was free. I got through book 3 and then it was just like, no, I need my brain cells, it got dumber by the minute.

Story is good, however

Too long, too much added to make the story longer-very hard to get into, I had to skip to the end to find out what happened. Too woke even though it involves the past.
