Farewell, I'm Bound to Leave You is rich with the music of the Southern mountains and the stories of their people. Jess Kirkman's grandmother is dying, and Jess remembers the tales she and his mother have passed down to him—a chorus of women's voices that sing and share and celebrate the common song of life.

“Grounded in the gripping art of storytelling, [it] demonstrates Fred Chappell's universal appeal … A stirring chorale of women's voices.”—Robert Taylor, The Boston Globe

I hate writing reviews for on-line tech companies. But I should tell anyone who will listen. This book is like that beautiful that makes you cry every time. Kt was free for some reason, and it should be.

meandering, beautiful and deep.

Few people can so effectively straddle the line between poetry and prose and use magical realism in an ordinary setting the way Fred Chappell could. The work is effectively a collection of short stories type effortlessly together through a narrated series of conversations between family members talking about the past. If you grow up in Appalachia, this is less a work of fiction and more like getting to hear all those family stories once again that you forgot from your childhood.

Lyrical, engaging storytelling
