Warm, feisty, and intelligent, the Delany sisters speak their mind in a book that is at once a vital historical record and a moving portrait of two remarkable women who continued to love, laugh, and embrace life after over a hundred years of living side by side.

Their sharp memories show us the post-Reconstruction South and Booker T. Washington, Harlem’s Golden Age and Langston Hughes, W. E. B. Du Bois, and Paul Robeson. Bessie breaks barriers to become a dentist; Sadie quietly integrates the New York City system as a high school teacher. Their extraordinary story makes an important contribution to our nation’s heritage—and an indelible impression on our lives.

The Delany sisters gave us such a gift ! Many African Americans ,and Americans as a whole , do not have an accurate depiction of our history. In their tell all experience , we get an insight to their tribulation , victory, sacrifice , survival, and TRUTH. This was amazing and should be read the world over .

Every American Should Read

I Loved their honesty about the world and their feelings about how they were treated.
I didn’t like when they called themselves “darkies” , but I understand it.
I recommend that everyone should read this book! I learned a lot about myself and what others go through in life, and survived.

I Love the Delaney Sisters❣️

The history that they lived through to the point I am going to listen to it again!

I like the perspective of the two sisters and how the same story was told through two different sets of eyes. It was interesting to hear about the Jim Crow laws and what they went through during that time.
