What if Robin Hood was real, only the heroic outlaw had been a woman?

Robyn lost everything: her home, her family, and her freedom. Branded as an outlaw by the Sheriff, she reinvents herself by joining Little John and his band in the guise of a boy, soon becoming their leader. But she misses the woman she loves, her best friend Marian.

Marian is distraught over the news concerning Robyn, and wishes to leave court for Nottingham to find her. Queen Eleanor sends her back as a spy to check up on Prince John, Sir Guy, and the greedy sheriff, while she tries to raise money for King Richard’s ransom. Soon Marian forges an alliance with Robyn to foil a traitorous plot, discovering her feelings run much deeper than friendship.

Can Robyn win Marian’s love, help the poor of Nottingham, save the king, and defeat the sheriff, or will his merciless sword strike her down?

I enjoyed everything about his retelling of Robin Hood.

The narration was good, the story itself was interesting and I loved the gentle sub plot romance between Robyn and Marian.

If you want a historical story with a romantic sub plot then this one is a good choice

Lovely historical gender bent tale

The book's good. it's well worth your time to read it.

Now, if you forgive me for being a boring pedant, I'd say that if you're in the market for just one sapphic retelling of Robin Hood, I'd recommend Nottingham by Anna Burke over this every single day of the week (but really you should just read both of them).

A wonderful spin on a classic tale

Heart of Sherwood is an all encompassing story that is exciting, romantic, and inspiring. I loved every minute of it. Robyn and Marian's love story was perfectly done and I loved the evolution of Robyn's character.

Well paced and well written, Heart of Sherwood uses History and fiction to weave a fun and wondrous tale that is perfect for both those familiar and new to the lore.

Jennifer Lewis did a marvelous job with the narration. I loved her accent and cadence and feel she was a perfect choice to bring this story to audio.

I absolutely loved this retelling of the classic with a woman as the main character. The intricacies of the relationships and scenes really build the story in your mind. The author does a great job describing Sherwood and all of the characters we love in Robin Hood.
The voices the narrator provides for the characters are really great and made the story extra engaging. I will be looking for more stories by both.

Great retelling of the classic
