High in the Swiss Alps, Heidi, a five-year-old orphan, comes to live with her grandfather. His neighbors say he is a fierce old hermit, of whom they are all afraid. Heidi, however, proves to be a remarkable, unaffected child, who quickly charms her grandfather. In fact, for Heidi, nothing could be better than living with him. She enjoys a genuine enthusiasm for life: for the goats, which she helps Peter to tend; for the spring flowers on the Alm; for the thick slices of bread and cheese that her grandfather prepares for her; and for the simple hay bed that she occupies in the loft of his hut.

However, her Aunt Dete doesn't understand, and it is a sad day when she takes Heidi to live in a strange city with a strange family who wants a companion for their young invalid daughter named Klara. Heidi does her best to be a friend to Klara, but her longing for home becomes too much to bear.

A MUST-HAVE!!

Johanna Ward is an EXCELLENT narrator! This is a perfect audiobook to listen to when you need a break from the lengthier heavy plotted novels (and I've listened to all sorts!).

Loved this sentimental favorite

When I was little, my grandmother took care of me while my mother worked. She loved to read and she frequently read to me. Heidi was one of the books she read to me. Because I had a close relationship with my grandparents, the book was a particular favorite of mine. This well-performed audio version of Heidi took me back to those safe times when Grandma would read to me as I was cozily tucked in for an afternoon nap.

Johanna Ward is amazing

This book has been one of our favorites for a long time and Johanna Ward does a fabulous job narrating it. It kept my kids attention and I personally love all the books she reads. Thank you so much!!

Fantastic

I had never read Heidi, but I'm glad I have now. The story Is delightful! Also, the narrator does a very good job.

So Simple. So Lovely.

I remember the Shirley Temple movie from oh so many years ago. The book is moving and made me misty eyed more than once.
