Inspired by a haunting true story....

When Rowan and her family move into the 1800s home nestled in the woods on a bluff near Lake Michigan, she's looking forward to a summer reprieve. However, she soon discovers that Helme House harbors dark secrets, including people who have vanished from the house and never been found.

As Rowan digs into the history of Helme House, a series of troubling experiences soon become deadly.

Helme House is the second stand-alone novel in the Troubled Spirits Series, where paranormal fiction meets true crime.

Not for me. Another thriller/mystery that takes place in a remote house that a bunch of crazy stuff happens to our main character that no one believes and her sanity is constantly questioned. Then we move on to 25 chapters of half clues or maybe red herrings and our heroine running around doing completely stupid things. In the home now so it’s an unsatisfying ending that never really hits that leaves me wonder why I read this book. Oh and I have never complained about a narrators voice before but this one was not for me. I increased the speed which helped with her breathy rough voice.

Tired storyline

Story was good, though the reveal seemed rushed and not a reveal at all. No twist, just pretty much what you expected. And honestly, this could have done GREAT things- I had even hoped at the beginning there would be a Yellow Wallpaper feel to it, but that never really panned out.

Narrator: Poorly chosen for the media- Ms. Hammond has a really breathy voice better suited to children's' books, romance, etc. Not so much horror/suspense. And especially for a book with so many male voices- they all come out sounding much like the same kid with various upper respiratory issues.

Decent story, poorly chosen narrator

Story was good although there was a few inconsistencies. I know when Rowan hurts her ankle but then suddenly it’s her knee then back to the ankle? Maybe I missed something??
My biggest hang up was with the narration. Apparently she can’t pronounce the letter G? Or maybe she’s wearing a retainer or something? Idk but once I noticed it, it made me cringe every time.

Story was good but…..
