Stefan de Marco was looking for a position...again. Being a high scoring magical anchor was only useful in his world when he had someone to partner with. His slender body and elfin looks meant he was usually only chosen to anchor people who believed his duties should extend well past working hours, and that wasn't something Stefan was interested in. Taking a chance on a pleasant man he met at the Magic Council job board one day, Stefan finds himself in the upmarket side of town, but as he listened to a gruff voice in an adjoining room, he had a horrible feeling he was making another mistake...or was he?

Lucifer Fireborn never claimed to be a nice person. Working as the Lead Steward for the Magic Council, it was his job to track down criminal magic users and bring them to justice. Finding out that Darwin, his younger brother and long-term anchor, had gone and allowed himself to be claimed by his magical mate was the sort of annoying distraction he didn't need. Especially when he receives word Technic, a criminal he has been tracking for three years has surfaced in Cairo. Darwin recommends Stefan as a suitable anchor, but in Lucifer's head the man is too young, too pretty and would prove too much of a distraction.

Shootings, fires, and kidnapping are all in a day's work for someone like Lucifer, but when sparks of a different kind start igniting between Lucifer and his new anchor, he feels the Fates have an agenda of their own. Can Lucifer and Stefan find the bad guy and win the day, or will Technic have the last laugh after all.

This is a Male-Male fated mates romance story with a guaranteed HEA, just like all of my stories. It contains a spot of violence, some bad language, and graphic scenes of an intimate nature and is suitable for adults only. Please store your audiobooks responsibly.

I loved the dynamic of Lucifer & Stephan and the Magic-Tech/Steampunk-ish-ness of the world. The marking on Stephan are so intriguing and I so want to know what each can do! An amazing book, truly. & I can hardly wait for a second book in the series.

An amazing book to read, and amazing book to listen too, as well. The narrator did an awesome job with the voices and keeping the story going. The characters are recognizable by their voice which already a great thing that not all narrators do.

I have read and listen to this book several times and each time a new part and the possibilities of it catches my attention & just makes me even more hopeful that a book 2 is definitely coming soon. This is a must read!

But I’m concerned that the author doesn’t call sexual assault violence. SA is a topic that is present through basically every part of the story so big trigger warning. It’s not treated as though it’s OK or anything, but there isn’t any warning about it being so present and I think it means that the author is assurance that there’s just a touch of violence in this book is just wrong. It’s sexual violence. At times it’s a little graphic too. Mensions of incest as well.
Also, the male lead is such a jerk. I don’t like him at all. And, I don’t think he does enough good by the end to be a redeemable jerk, so the romance wasn’t particularly appealing.
If it was on purpose, the parallels between magic classism in the book and real world sexism were there so the author did portray a clear message of sexism sucks.
A good sentiment, but this was not a good book. They had an “and everyone clapped“ type scene at the end. The only reason I got through it is so I could write this review, and I’m going to return it.

Bonus, here are a couple of notes I took while I was listening to this book because I was so annoyed about it:
“Lucifer’s sexy talk includes ‘you’re like a fine horse’ gosh what a sweet talker”
“It’s never a good sign when I look at the time left and go ‘oh god I still have 4 hours and 36 minutes left? Nooooooo’”

Not much action movie style violence…
