Jane Austen's early novels are a comic portrait of characters and society. Pride and Prejudice depicts late 18th-, early 19th-century England where the social class system was very rigid. Behavior was very important, especially for women who were hoping to find a husband, and having good behavior meant sticking to the right manners and right forms of address. Everyone watched everyone else and noted even tache slightest changes in mannerism, so it was very important to use the right manners all the time. This applied to women much more than to men.

The main heroine, Elizabeth, is witty, educated, intelligent, and capable of much more than being polite, having a decent face expression, and moving gracefully. However, living in the 19th century, her choices in life are very limited.

This is my favorite book I’ve read/listened to by this author. This is the fourth audio rendition I’ve listened to.
Having the overview and themes at the beginning added to this experience. For those that don’t understand society at that time, I think it may help make the book’s storyline more understandable.

This is the first book I’ve listened to by this narrator ( Eleanor Burrows ). She did a great job narrating this book. She has a pleasant pace and cadence. She has a pleasant pace and cadence, and chooses appropriate voices for all the characters.

There are no explicit sex scenes, excessive violence or swearing.

I have listened to many Pride and Prejudice audiobooks over the years and this is one of the best! Eleanor Burrows did a fabulous job with voices. I especially loved her voice for Lydia! She nailed it!

Pride and Prejudice is of course a fabulous story! There is a reason why so many people love it!

The introduction at the beginning is great for listeners new to the story.

Presentation was excellent. I had never read Pride and Prejudice and wonder why it is a "classic". Perhaps because so few books written by and for women at the time. It was good and kept my interest, just didn't make me want to read more Jane Austen.

Enjoyable

I absolutely love this story. The extras added at the beginning were very interesting but if you haven't read the story before I would skip them until after the story. The narrator's voice was a little monotone but was interesting when the characters talked.

This is a very well done, entertaining presentation of Pride & Prejudice. The narrator perfectly reads the novel differentiating her voice by character. This makes for a very enjoyable story to hear. (Her voice is perfect for Mrs. Bennet! )
