Katelyn Winters is a mystery writer who is officially in a rut. With her editor hounding her for the next hot book, she's dug her heels into her office trying to type out something...anything! That's when life steps in and throws her some juicy tidbits; Haverford Manor. Between the old mystery of the murder that happened there years ago and its new tenants, Adam and Vickie Haverford, there's a plethora of ideas. Unfortunately, Katelyn gets in a little too deep...that's when her sister, Abby, steps in and offers a murder-mystery weekend experience. As fun as that sounds, could bad omens and ill will follow Katelyn to Winchester Estates? Has Katelyn gotten herself in a little too deep? Hopefully, she's not the one to be kidnapped!

Interesting premise: author is having trouble with a new manuscript when a different neighbor moves into a house with a murder history and other odd goings on. She gets caught up in the home's history when she and he sister run into new and strange happenings. Rather simply written and easily for most age groups. Good characters and interesting twists. I liked it and look forward to reading others in the series!
Narrator Jeannette Smith is okay but her voice grated a bit.
I won this audio in a giveaway! Yay me!

I loved the description of this book. The idea of a mystery author having trouble with her new book sounded like a different and fun idea for a storyline. I was underwhelmed by the audiobook sadly. There is nothing wrong with the book, no sex, bad language, or anything like that. But I also didn't find anything that made me want to continue with this series. I was also underwhelmed with the narrator Jeannette Smith as well. At first, Jeannette's voice seemed fine but over time it grated on me. With that, all said it is an okay book and you might not be as picky as I seem to be in this year of 2020.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

From the beginning you know something is wrong with one of the characters. It’s an interesting take on an old house. Everyone knows old houses and places are memories of history and those histories have holes and those holes often cause confusion as to what really happened.
I loved the characters and the stories. This book certainly feels like a two for one deal. Both stories make you laugh and keep your attention till the very end. The narrative done by Jeannette is perfect.

Funny and Mysterious

I had a difficult time listening to Kidnapped. The characters were flat, the mystery is disjointed and and didn't make sense. The plot is unrealistic and seems to be written in the style of a 50s mystery noir. I also thought the dialogue was stilted and dated. The narrator didn't do a bad job, but couldn't save this book. I couldn't get into this book and had to force myself to complete it.

I received this book for free in exchange for an unbiased review.
