It moved beneath the surface. Silent. Black. DEADLY.

Politics. There’s nothing Don Trask, head of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) hates more. Except murderers.

A new oil pipeline in Minnesota has been drawing protests, and now one of the operators of a pumping station has been killed in an explosion. It’s likely a bomb planted by protestors that killed the station operator according to the local police, which is good enough for Don, but not for the governor. The protestors say they are being wrongly accused, and the police have a security agreement with the pipeline company, a company headquartered in Canada. Tensions are high.

So, Don is off to northern Minnesota to investigate, something he hopes to wrap up quickly because he has fishing plans with his brother. But those plans are dashed when the bomber decides a bigger statement needs to be made – and Don’s investigation needs to come to an explosive end.

Readers of John Sanford, William Kent Krueger, Tami Hoag, James Patterson and like authors will enjoy this fast-paced thriller.

I really enjoy C.E. Nelson's work. Because of this, I decided to listen with Virtual voice, which I detest. My wonderful husband said give it another try. He said we are experiencing the worst it will ever be. He said try and listen because I enjoy the author. Well, I listened and he was correct. This was the best it's been so far. The way it's obvious is the pronunciation of some ethnic words. Bemidgi was a struggle but probably is for anyone who has not lived in Minnesota. I have!!!

Great story line, narrative was much improved.
