Skulduggery Pleasant and Valkyrie Cain are back in their most gripping story yet, as book 11, Midnight, picks up where Resurrection left off – and runs.

For years, Valkyrie Cain has struggled to keep her loved ones safe from harm, plunging into battle – time and time again – by Skulduggery Pleasant’s side, and always emerging triumphant.

But now the very thing that Valkyrie fights for is in danger, as a ruthless killer snatches her little sister in order to lure Valkyrie into a final confrontation. With Skulduggery racing to catch up and young sorcerer Omen scrambling along behind, Valkyrie only has twelve hours to find Alice before it’s too late. The clock is ticking…

Critic reviews

“A high-intensity tale….Readers, particularly Artemis Fowl fans, will be skipping meals and sleep to get to the end.”
— Kirkus Reviews (starred review)

“Utterly charming…perfect for the Potter crowd.”
— Publishers Weekly (starred review)

“Rich fantasy that is as engaging in its creative protagonists and villains as it is in the lightning-paced plot and sharp humor.”
— BCCB

“Landy keeps the action brisk, his characters slightly macabre, and uses humor to take the edge off.”
— ALA Booklist

“Skulduggery Pleasant serves up a thoroughly satisfying blend of humor, magic and adventure. Once you’ve met Stephanie and Skulduggery, you’ll be clamoring for a sequel.”
— Rick Riordan, author of the Percy Jackson series

love these books but they seem to get more and more political. not a fan of that. The whole point of a fantasy fiction novel is to escape the real world into the fantastic. I feel that the obvious transparency of this writer's political opinions distracts from the main point of a fantasy fiction novel and turns it to a propaganda peice. other other that, I'm liking Velkerri's journey

engaging but political

The story line is fading as old and new characters are killed off and the violence continues in ways that feel more and more stages. How many times does Valkyrie have to be hit in the head from behind and beaten near to death? Feels like lazy writing. Also the introduction of politics in ham handed manner hits wrong as author bias over comes writing quality.
