Monk's house is being fumigated, and he has nowhere to go. Fortunately, his assistant Natalie and her daughter are kind enough to welcome him into their home. Unfortunately, their home is not quite up to Monk's standards of cleanliness and order. But while Monk attempts to arrange his surroundings just so, something else needs to be put straight. The death of a dog at the local firehouse - on the same night as a fatal house fire - has led Monk into a puzzling mystery. And much to his horror, he's going to have to dig through a lot of dirt to find the answer.©2006 Universal Studios Licensing (P)2009 BBC Audio Cozy Mystery Cozy Mystery Witty Fiction Police Procedural Genre Fiction Suspense Thriller & Suspense Movie, TV & Video Game Tie-Ins

I wish I would have known about this series sooner. I'm on the final book of the series, and each reads like a standalone episode of the show. The book does a good job laying out Monk's idiosyncrasies, his relationship with the world, Natalie and Stottlemeyer, against a backdrop of murder and crime. I'm glad I found this series, and was even more excited they were free listens!

Captures the spirit of the TV show. Lots of fun.

I like to alternate between a serious book and a light, "fluffy" book. This fit the second category perfectly. I found it surprisingly funny. I giggled out loud several times listening to this book in public, which I haven't done since the last David Sedaris book. It was also quite touching in some parts, much like the TV show. Overall a very satisfying listening experience. I will be buying more in this series.
