Former bad girl Katie Stone can feel the weight of her reputation settle over her as she drives home for the first time in years. Feeling deeply guilty about her past mistakes, Katie wants to do the right thing for once. But the small town where she grew up is not nearly as forgiving as she'd hoped. Despite it all, she's determined to help her parents cope with her mother's recent illness, and Katie finds a surprise ally in the man next door.

Asher Powell never minded being the son of a small-town pastor until a recent breakup leaves him wounded by lifelong members of his church. He remembers his new neighbor as a mean-spirited high school troublemaker, but he senses that her newfound faith and desire for forgiveness are sincere.

Through an unexpected friendship, two people from different worlds find peace, hope, and a second chance they never dreamed was possible.

"Sometimes people need more than a verse and a prayer, sometimes you just need to know they care"

Katie Stone finds that in her next door neighbor when she returns home to help her parents. Years ago, Katie was known as the bad girl of her small town and when she comes back home her long-ago friends won't let her forget her past. Katie finds a friend and support in Asher Powell.
I love how the Christian element was woven gently into this story and how God used Asher to help Katie right the wrongs of her past, forgive herself and move forward.
I also liked how there was both a female and male narrator for Katie and Asher. They did a wonderful job. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the performance.
If I could give this book more than 15 stars I would!

One of the best real life situations that occur everyday and how they can be redeemed and how single moments can affect your life until the end. Well written and great character building, I felt like I know them

What I love about Tammy L Gray’s books, and this one is no exception, is that she peels back the layers of religion and shows that God’s grace is accessible to all no matter the back story. Her characters are real and relatable and the storyline is both believable and compelling. She also shows that grace has and needs no gatekeeper when she juxtaposes pharasaical Christians who’ve lost sight of their daily need for grace with believers who never go a moment forgetting it.

Accessible grace

Gripping storyline about seemingly insurmountable mistakes, broken hearts & lives, second chances, faith, hope & redemption. Oh, & love too. Not just between a man and a woman, but also between the Potter and His clay. Thoroughly enjoyed this listen!

Loved it!
