It's as big as the Empire State Building, a massive floating fortress at the throbbing heart of a U.S. Navy Carrier Battle Group. It's a Nimitz-class nuclear carrier, the most powerful weapons system on the planet. Nothing can touch it.

So when the first stunned messages say only that the Thomas Jefferson has disappeared, the Navy reacts with disbelief. But the truth becomes inescapable: a Nimitz-class carrier has been claimed by nuclear catastrophe-no other explanation is possible.

But as Navy maverick Bill Baldridge begins to investigate the disaster that claimed his idolized brother's life, another chilling alternative begins to emerge: a rogue submarine. Suddenly it's up to Bill Baldridge to track down this shadowy nuclear terrorist, who still has another nuclear-tipped torpedo in his arsenal.

"An absolutely marvelous thriller, one of the best things of its kind I have read in years. I don't need to urge people to read it, because they will do so by the millions."

Interesting and fast paced. Great way to spend your time without hurting your eyes watching TV. Story told well with some twists and turns here and there. I actually think that such an event might be possible, but I think the escorts would have made short work of the attacking enemy, as the LA fast-attacks would have been submerged.

Fast Read. !

This was a great story. If you like Tom Clancy's work, you are going to Love this. I am going to look at the other books in the trilogy.

Great job!

The author ended it the way he wanted, but I felt it would have been better with something more in-depth, such as finding who was behind the trigger man, which would have been a more satisfactory ending for a book about the death of 6,000 Navy sailors.

Good reading, needs more satisfactory conclusion.

Abridgments either work or they don't…and this one doesn't. While Jay O. Sanders delivers one of his typically masterful readings, the story has been abridged too much. As a result, the story is very choppy and jumps roughly from scene to scene with large gaps in time, events, etc. The story is exciting and worth the listener's time IF AND ONLY IF an unabridged version is available.

Abridgement cuts too much

I have listened to this book several times. It is still a great book! I think it would be an even better listen book if it was unabridged.

What a great book.
