This exclusive audiobook short story looks back - way back - to where it all began for Odd Thomas and Stormy Llewellyn, two souls who are destined to be together forever.

Amid the dizzying rides, tantalizing games of chance, and fanciful attractions of a state fair, two teenage sweethearts on the cusp of life and love's pleasures find their way to a shadowy carnival tent brimming with curiosities. There, from the bizarre and enthralling Gypsy Mummy, a mechanized merchant of dreams and prognosticator of tomorrows, the young couple learns what fate promises for them. But fate, for Odd Thomas and Stormy Llewellyn, is something altogether different: full of dark corners, sharp edges, and things no seer or soothsayer could ever anticipate.

And for Odd Thomas, a gallant fry cook from a sleepy California desert town, the future beckons - to listen to unquiet spirits, pursue unsettling mysteries, and learn shocking truths...for a purpose far greater than himself.

I love the short but excellent quality. A great intro to what can be an amazing book. I am very glad I picked this up.

I’ve been wanting to read Odd Thomas for quite a while and when the big sitewide Audible sale came along, I took advantage of the opportunity. I also spotted this brief prequel and decided to try it first. Koontz writes well, even if much of his work is a bit too dark for my taste. This one however was lighter and full of witty descriptions. I hope the full first Thomas book continues the same way

It's a sweet prologue to the main story. Highly enjoyable and was a nice way to get back into it.

I haven’t read Dean Koontz in more than 10 years. This popped up in my included books. I can’t remember the one and only book I had read by Mr. Koontz I gave it to a friend to read. I had really enjoyed that book I got it on a plane I traveled a lot for years and It was not uncommon to exchange finished books with other passengers at the end of a flight. You just held it up to offer it to anyone. Sometimes you exchanged books or just gave it away. That book I started at home laying in bed. I was more into Michael Connelly crime novels. But I remember my body jerked as I was reading the first chapter when out of the blue a husband pushed his wife off a Fire watch tower to her death. It was a well done novel. But I stuck with crime novels then on to none fiction Roman History. I now have nearly 300 audio books and very happy the one popped up. I have been looking for some new things to listen to as I wait for some new books in a few series I’m following. This little short story has jogged my memory and I will be reading a few of Koontz books he is a great writer and I look forward to reading his work. I’m old and broken and lay in bed nearly bedridden and listen to Audio books several hours every day. I can recommend Mr. Koontz work. Give this one a shot you may find your next guilty pleasure.

A fun short story!
