There’s trouble on the trail drive in this Ralph Compton Western....

Chancy Gantry and Ollie Teal are honest cowpunchers, riding herd on 1,500 longhorns from Texas to Kansas. Their trail boss, Lucas Stout, is tough but fair. He’s never lost a hand on a drive and doesn’t aim to start now. So when a cowhand needs a sawbones badly, Stout sends Chancy and Ollie to escort the man to a town called Prosperity, of which neither of them has ever heard.

At first glance, the town looks deserted - but the saloon is full. The dusty denizens of Prosperity are happy to help the ailing cowboy, especially when they hear about the herd grazing a few miles away. Chancy and Ollie are about to discover that some towns are a lot easier to ride into than to ride out of....

What begins as a typical cattle drive goes terribly wrong when an outfit detours their herd to Paradise to get medical help for a sick cowhand. What follows is war.

Great writing combined with excellent narration!

In this western there on a cattle drive. Chancy and Ollie are the main characters. The rest are important also. They end up stopping in a little town and the town is full of outlaws. They have a scam to steal the herd. I couldn't stop listening to this book but I got so mad at Ollie. No one can be that dence. He's got a good heart but no brains. This is an excellent western. There was a lot of bad or wrong decisions. This is a different storyline of a cattle drive. It's interesting. Jack Garrett does a great job narrating this book. I had a great deal of fun listening to this yarn. A tad campy (pun intended) in parts, and with some tough hombre outlaws in others, but with the most unique form of cattle rustling I'd ever heard of. Enjoy!

Is Ollie's real last name "Gump"?I
