In a bustling port city in the colony of Virginia, she becomes the servant of Gage Thornton—a shipbuilder with a young child in need of a nanny. And despite whispered rumors condemning the handsome widower for the untimely death of his wife, Shemaine cannot ignore her desire for this caring, generous and enigmatic stranger who silently aches with his growing need for her—even as grave peril reaches out from across a vast ocean to threaten their flowering love. I loved how it lead up to love. Also the suspense of who done it

The narrator did an outstanding job interpreting the intended voices of the characters which enriched the immersion into the story. Most of the characters were very well described and written. One thing that seemed a little unrealistic were some of the capabilities of the young child, likely not appropriate for the child’s age of 2. But otherwise very good read. Worth the purchase!

Great narration!

could not wait to get back to it every chance I could. trying to imagine rooms, ship, wood shop, even the smells of the old trunks was easy because the writing made it easy.

I read this book years ago, and was so excited to see it on Audible! The book is just as good as I remember, and I loved every moment of it. The narrator was good, but something about it bothered me, I think it was the Cain voice. Even with that, I enjoyed it immensely and am glad I have it in my library. Every bit worth the credit!

One of my favorite Romance novels!

Although I think this is one of her lesser novels, I enjoyed it in paperback years ago and I enjoyed it on Audible. Not all of her details are accurate about the time period, but it does not take away from a provocative storyline.

I am a fan!
