Spenser smells corruption in a college town. Taft University's hottest basketball star is shaving points for quick cash. All manner of sleaze -- from corrupt academics to hoods with graduate degrees -- have their fingers in the pot.

Spenser's search takes him from lecture halls to blue collar bars and finally into a bloody confrontation with almost certain death. But Spenser saves an arrogant young athlete -- even though it nearly kills him to do it.

"Spenser is a tough as they come and spiked with a touch of real class." (Kirkus Reviews)

The story was typical Spenser. The recording volume was low and uneven, and sounded like it was copied from tape (as it probably was).

Spenser again.

Love the plot. All the usual interesting characters and interplay. Good wins out! The bad guys loose. The dynamic duo of Spencer and Hawk is the best! Great humor interspersed.

Great sports story. A Spencer classic! Love the play of the good guys win , but it isn’t always easy

Great writing combined with excellent reading made this book an easy listen. Robert B. Parker's writing style blends action and humor with a riveting story line to keep the reader glued to his seat. Spenser is hired by a university to investigate a charge of point-shaving on the basketball team. What he and Hawk discover leads them to a far more serious crime as well as a threat on Spenser's life.

Spenser and Hawk are at it again!
