Thea

I would do nearly anything to avoid the lecherous advances of an eager earl, including running away from my finishing school and finding employment under a false name. The work turned out to be harder than I expected, however, and the prospect of returning to a life of comfort and a significant reduction of welts on my hands and shadows beneath my eyes just might be a temptation I’m too weary to refuse. The problem? The invitation comes from Benedict, the ultimate tormentor of my youth and brief object of my infatuation—the latter of which he can never find out.

Benedict

When I found Thea working in the belly of a grand house and did my best to convince her to return home with me where my mother awaited her, I did not expect her to agree. Our years of quarreling had solidified the woman as my enemy, and traveling alone together was a prospect that both terrified and intrigued me. Thea had only been my friend for a brief time years ago, and I do not know why she turned us against one another. But now that we’re forced together again, I cannot help but renew my determination to find out—because a woman who can hate with such fire is bound to love with the same fervor.

I enjoyed it very much. I wish I hadn’t read them out of sequence. I think I would have enjoyed it more.

Very good

I was admittedly hesitant to start this book as I rarely enjoy the enemies-to-lovers trope and the overly and unrealistically combative nature of those romances. And so, as expected, this was not my favorite Kasey Stockton book.

I did not care for Thea’s character or how she treated Benedict. I understand she had reservations about his flirting, but she merely needed to friend-zone him and make it clear she wasn’t interested in him romantically. She didn’t need to be mean and hostile (certainly not without telling him why). He was nothing but kind and caring towards her, and even she admitted he was a good and honorable guy. Her character and behavior caused me to struggle through much of the book.

That said, this is still Kasey Stockton, so still a well written and engaging book. My enjoyment of it significantly increased the further I got, and I especially loved the ending.

Book 3 with Henry is going to be awesome! 🤓

Content:
There is no foul language, sex, or violence. The romance is limited to lightly descriptive kisses. There is no real mention of faith or God.

I loved the first book in the Bradwell Brothers series; however, I did not care for this one as much simply because of the male narrator. His voice was slow and way too monotone for my tastes & this took away from my listening pleasure. I am on Chapter 15 & will finish the book because I am loving the storyline.

Great Writer!

Plot twists and turns arrived at a great ending for the main characters with the promise of an exciting next book in the series for what I'm sure to be one of my favorite characters. I listened voraciously in spite of tiring of the two main characters' continual bickering and misunderstandings throughout most of the novel (the point had been sufficiently made), yet both their points of view were explained. I highly anticipate reading about the third Bradford brother's introduction to romance and finding a wife as was hinted for the next novel of the series!
Dear Author: PLEASE write a "Bradford Brother's Christmas" novel with them & their new wives & developments. I was so disappointed when this one skipped from a few weeks before Christmas to a few weeks after. Please give us readers a period-approriate description of a Christmas time and its preparations & events.
