Defy destiny. Ascend beyond the realm of gods.

For thousands of years, the cycle of fate repeats itself: the Death God is reborn, only to be slain by a [Hero] chosen by the Goddess of Life. Having reached the peak of power just like his predecessors who died before him, Nox the Death God realizes something they never did—that resisting his fate is pointless, so he accepts his death.

But that was all a part of his plan to break the cycle of destiny once and for all.

By altering the reincarnation process to retain his memories before his death, he wakes up in the body of Eli, a recently murdered orphan in the small city of Velmond. With a large portion of both his death magic abilities and his vast pool of mana from his previous life, he completes the first part of his plan and gives himself a real chance of escaping his inevitable demise in this life.

The next step to achieving his goal is by becoming a [Healer] and enrolling in the Holy Academy of the Church of Life…the very same organization that killed him in his past life. So he will have to hide his true identity, all the while also dealing with bandits, monsters, and the mysterious Avatars of Death that came about during the 10 years after his passing.

And the final step of his plan? Transcend the power of even gods by becoming stronger than ever before.

The story is engaging and I’m interested to hear the next episode. However, the writer used “and she/he/they touched their chin” so many times that I suspect ChatGPT wrote it.

Interesting

Hey, do you want a good drinking game? If so, then take a shot of alcohol every time someone tries to work their jaw in this book, and another if someone rubs their chin.

In all seriousness, with the above overused phrases not withstanding, this was a decent book. The premise is somewhat different and the story is complex enough to hold one's attention. I'm not super keen on school arcs but it is what it is.

I think it's mainly the MC that makes the book since he isn't a transmigrated gamer loser and actually has a good balance of compassion, backbone, and common sense. I'm genuinely invested in what he will do next. I think some people will complain that he is a bit of a Gary Stu, but it works in this case since he's got lots of skill and knowledge from his past life to fall back on. I'd rather have that than the style of book where an otherwise capable MC is forced by the author to make dumb mistakes to spice up the plot, you know?

But I'm rambling. Th bottom line is that this is a good book so if you like the sound of the summary then give it a shot.

Oh, and the narrator? He sounds a bit too much like he should be narrating old detective novels to me, but listening at 1.2X speed helped and I soon found him to be just fine.

Many Nonfunctional Jaws (at Least Nine)

A really good story, can't wait to see what happens next. Really hope part 2 comes quickly.

Really Good

The reader of this book was great with his various voices for the multitude of characters. The only complaint I have is that the writer uses the phrase "scratches the back of his head" a LOT.

Reader was delightfu

MC is an insufferable mary sue, constantly smirking, recieving praise from everyone around him. He's hated as the death god, but not because of anything he did, he's actually a good guy with dark powers. Such an edge lord, who never does anything sensibly if it can be done dramatically, amd of course no one calls him out for being a smug narcissist.

the breaking point comes when a priest seeks him out and "tricks" him into trying to cure some incurable plague victims. Then, instead of communicating with anyone, he sets the first patient on fire to burn out the bad magic. No healer in the world would allow this to happen, and it causes so much distress to the guy he's streaming until he realizes he's not actually on fire and it doesn't hurt as much as it should.

realistically, the priest should have physically restrained MC when he set a patient on fire, then when he saw it worked, he should have given MC a stern talking to about bedside manner before allowing him to continue.

instead, everyone and everyone love and praise him as just the best guy in the world who can do no wrong.

edit: So I continued on for another hour, and something even worse happens. with this MC reborn into a random boy's body, the orphanage owner who cares for him figures out he's the death god and confronts him, and I think: damn, now we're finally get some character. Is the MC able kill an innocent and kind woman to protect himself and secure this new life, or will he leave her, knowing full well she could betray him?

instead there's a big sappy scene where the MC declares he super feels nice about this orphanage now and they guy, and I'm like, Girl, this guy is an imposter you have known for a month, why are you letting him hug you and crying on his shoulder. And I thought the whole point was that he acted so different you could tell.

The author side steps this interesting conundrum in the most boring and cheesy way, to the point I just wish he would have started with the orphan kid awakening as the death god if the MC was just going to awaken the kid's memories and feelings anyway.

Smug Mary Sue MC
