Davis was five years older than me . . . antisocial and temperamental. And there was the little fact that he didn't know I existed. Still, I gave him my heart, and he crushed it.

So I picked up the pieces and ran away to New York City. I had a plan that would keep my heart intact for years. But one phone call changed everything.

Returning home meant facing the past . . . and the man who ruined me. I had hoped that the mountain had swallowed him whole.

But, as I set out to help my parents, I discover he's not only alive and well, but that they apparently love the jerk. He has no idea that we have a past, which is both a relief and salt in the wound.

I promise myself I'll ignore how his eyes linger on me, or how his touch feels like a live wire, and I'll remember that once upon a time he broke me, and for that, I refuse to fall for him again.

But I can't control that he seems to be falling for me this time.

Contains mature themes.

So this book was okay but really long and a slow burn. So the beginning after the prologue was a little unnecessary. We learn that the female character has a huge crush on the male character but he's 3 or 4 years older than her and she was just a senior. Her heart was crushed and she ran off to college on new York. At this point I felt like there could've been a time jump to the present but instead the author when on a rant talking about the female character's no so glamorous life in new York and crushing on yet a new guy that doesn't know she exists. This has no bearing on the story whatsoever. She's called home up help with her family's diner. In the meantime the male character has been wondering about the girl who caught him unaware while simultaneously calling her a "stalker"and making fun of her with his friend. Which totally didn't make sense. To the rest of the story. He literally goes looking for her. Now who actually seeks out their "stalker". Little does he know... She's been right under his nose. The woman who's parents have been so friendly to him and have tried to set them up. WHAT?! 😂😂 It does come together but it literally did not make sense. Editing.. that's all I'm saying. Someone should've asked these questions. There are some really sweet moments and some funny moments along with some really romantic moments and for that alone, I'm rating this a 3.

it has it's moments

I absolutely loved this story. I do think it would have been better enjoyed had I read it instead of listen to it. These were new to me narrators and I just wasn't feeling them. I pushed through and listened to it all because I didn't have time to read it and had to know how it ended.

A book better read than listened to.

The narrators make the characters sound like petulant children. I read the book and liked it. The audiobook left something to be desired the narrators weren’t that great, especially the female narrator. She made Rae sound like an idiot with the emotional maturity of a 12 year old. It’s hard to explain but some books are better read than listened to.

I had some trouble getting through this book. The FMC was a lot to deal with. Her obsession was OVER THE TOP!!! Just too much for me. I liked parts of the story and if this wasn’t concentrated on soooo much I might have liked it more.

Meh 🫤
