Genevieve Daylee didn’t expect to be standing in front of a judge on her 27th birthday. But ever since her life became entangled with a former motorcycle gang, she’s learned not to expect anything but trouble.

Her mother, a woman she once admired and adored, is gone, leaving behind a trail of secrets and lies. She’s living in a tiny apartment above a garage owned by her brother, a man who loathes her very existence. And the father she met beside her mother’s grave is as much of a stranger as Isaiah Reynolds, the broken man with soulless eyes standing beside her in front of the judge.

Isaiah is her protector from the murderer at large in Clifton Forge. Though he’s more like a riven knight in dented armor than a prince on a white stallion. She knows next to nothing about him, other than he works as a mechanic. As of tonight, he’ll be sharing her bathroom.

And, according to the judge, Isaiah is now her husband.

Devney Perry kept me on the edge of my seat with Genevieve and Isaiah’s story! Their love was truly hard won, but so very worth the happily-ever-after they obtained, especially after all the deceit, secrets, and meddling of friends and family alike! The angst Genevieve felt throughout the story of being thrust into a family and having to win them over without any of the fault being hers was narrated perfectly by Maxine Mitchell! Jason Clarke did a fantastic job bringing Isaiah’s emotions to the surface with his narration as well! I absolutely enjoyed this audiobook!

I enjoyed how this story. This is book 2 of the series involving two strangers who come together to protect each other. This will not win the Pulitzer Prize in literature, but it is an entertaining weekend listen with excellent narration by Mitchell and Clarke. If you are looking for a story with lots of steam and alpha male personas this is not the book for you. It is an easy, slow build romance with a touch of intrigue.

Solid slow burn romance

I really enjoy DP’s books, and I’d put off buying this series bc I wasn’t sure I’d like the MC elements. I’m so glad I finally took the dive! This is romantic suspense at its best with so many twists and turns! Strong plot, well-developed characters, ongoing crime from Book One in the series, small town, fake marriage, great chemistry, both the H and h are genuinely good people in spite of their flaws, wonderful HEA, and epilogue. I had all the feels in Riven Knight!

I particularly loved the window into Isaiah’s story…he was Kaine’s brother from Tragic in the Lark Cove series. It really felt redemptive, knowing his background and his brother’s pov of the tragedy their family has experienced. The interconnectedness among DP’s stories is great, but you don’t have to read the Lark Cove s series to enjoy the books in Tin Gypsy. But, be sure you read the books in this series in order!

Narration was stellar which greatly enhanced the story. I started this series yesterday, and I’ve already finished the first two books!

Excellent!

✨ Marriage of convenience
✨ Forced proximity
✨ Romantic suspense

Riven Knight is my absolute favorite of the Clifton Forge Series! Genevieve and Isaiah’s love story is so heartbreakingly beautiful because both are struggling with their own demons. What makes this book even more angsty is how much they are drawn to one another but struggle with their relationship “not being real.” They each had their own demons to deal with and could relate to one another but struggled with isolating themselves. Once they began to open up to one another, I was done for. To see the transformation of their relationship from beginning to end was so satisfying. One of the best marriage of conveniences I have read.
