A small town, enemies-to-lovers romance from Wall Street Journal and USA Today Bestselling Author Devney Perry.

One old farmhouse brought them together.

It could also tear them apart. Gigi has just uprooted her whole world to start a new life. The unexpected gift of a farmhouse in small-town Montana is just what she and her daughter need to escape big-city loneliness. The last thing she needs is attitude from the town’s sheriff, the most perfectly attractive and ruggedly handsome man she’s ever laid eyes on—and a complete jerk.

Jess knows all about women like Gigi. Beautiful. Sexy. Scheming. She’s stolen his sanctuary, the farmhouse that should have been his. But along with a face full of freckles, she’s got a sharp wit and a backbone of steel—something he doesn’t discover until after making a complete fool of himself. If he can earn back her trust and win her heart, he might just find the home he’s always needed.

This is a hard book for me to rate since I really didn't like the beginning but loved the middle and ending. In the very beginning I loved Gigi, She was confident and strong and then Jess comes in and takes over her life... seriously takes it over. I really didn't get why she just let him plow right over her and everything she said. I like a good bad guy and an alpha guy just as much as the next guy but in the beginning he was just an a$$hole... and she just acted like he was so pretty it was ok that he acted like that. Once they were together things started to get more normal and he was much more like an alpha good guy than a jerk. By the end of the book I loved Jess and his relationship with Gigi's daughter so much! This book is full of mystery and honestly I knew who the bad guy was right away but I still liked the way the story went. I'm really hoping for a book on Felicity, Jess's sister, she has a story and I want it now.

The narration was good. It was about 80% Ava & 20% Joe and they both did a great job.

The story line was good. Georgia the main female character is an idiot. Jess the main male character was a well written character. I don't see how Georgia can find her way out of a paper bag. Was not happy with the way she acted or the lack of common sense she had.

I finished the book but it was a struggle

Let me start by saying that I loved the story well enough. It was intense, suspenseful, and the sex was hot. What I didn't like was how Jess was manipulative. The premise behind Gigi coming to live at the farmhouse was heartfelt, and it touched my heart. From the get-go Jess was a jerk, but after hearing Gigi's plight, he forced an apology on her and made demands of her without even knowing her. When I say manipulative...every time he overstepped his bounds and she called him out on it, he would kiss her or dismiss her concerns. She in turn would forget about her reason for being upset, which were legit reasons. I did however, love his relationship with Rowan. That was sweet and genuine. I loved little Rowan throughout this story. Overall, the story was good, but my rating is a 3.75 because manipulation does not sit well with me, even if the guy is sexy and swoon-worthy. He had some good attributes, but...

Manipulate much?

When I read the preview of this book I was excited and looking forward to the story. Devny Perry is one of my favorite authors so I figured this would be another fabulous listen. Unfortunately the story line was a huge let down. I wasn't thrilled with the pace of the main characters relationship. It didn't feel realistic or on base with how Devny normally builds her characters. Gigi was fine, nothing really stood out to me with her. I was also disappointed with how little narration Jess had, especially with Joe Arden being the narrator.
I wanted to like it, and now I am not sure I will continue with the series.

It was mehh

Though Jesse could be a little hot headed, he was still lovable. However, Gigi’s insecurities were exhausting. Her “ex” was a douche so I don’t understand why she internalized what he said about her...I didn’t care for her character’s lack of self esteem. There was a lot of angst that would’ve been prevented if Jesse and Gigi communicated better.

Spoiler Alert:
Seriously, how do not mention to your boyfriend/cop that you saw suspicious flashlight activity in the woods on your property, after you and your child’s safety had been threatened twice?
