Where this book excels is in it's ability to give you multiple shorter meditations you can do throughout the day. In a traditional retreat, you'd avoid all the items of your regular daily life like your phone and work. You can go through and do a meditation from this every time you get a chance to throughout the day and get great results. If you're a newcomer and looking to boost your meditation, that's a great approach to take to do so. You can really do that just about every day. You might want to do the meditations out of order from where they are in the boook, though. For example, I like doing a body scan in bed while I'm getting ready to fall asleep. Great versions of the basic meditations like mindfulness of the breath. There is a loving kindness meditation in here that's in the format I prefer. A bit short and not structured enough for what I I'd consider a true day of meditation. If you save things like cleaning up around your house for Sunday, then you can fairly easily set these up at various times throughout the day and mindfully clean around the house between meditations. It's basically a good collection of varied basic meditations anybody can try at any level. This could be very good for a true beginner if you do a meditation or two or three a day.

This is the first Sharon Salzberg audio I ever tried. I'm very satisfied...thrilled with this little book full of refreshing approaches to the usual mindfulness and meditation in my collection.
