"If you have raced with men on foot, and they have wearied you, how will you compete with horses?" Jeremiah 12:5

We all long to live life at its best-to fuse freedom and spontaneity with purpose and meaning. Why then do we often find our lives so humdrum, so unadventuresome, so routine? Or else so frantic, so full of activity, but still devoid of fulfillment? How do we learn to risk, to trust, to pursue wholeness and excellence-to run with the horses in the jungle of life?

In a series of profound reflections on the life of Jeremiah the prophet, Eugene Peterson explores the heart of what it means to be fully and genuinely human. His writing is filled with humor and self-reflection, insight and wisdom, helping to set a course for others in the quest for life at its best.

Always found Jeremiah full of curious things. Love the historical and cultural color Eugene adds to bring the events and responses into focus.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone, especially those who are struggling with their faith, or otherwise feel disappointed with God. Peterson does a fantastic job of putting my challenges in perspective, and he gave me someone I can really relate to in Jeremiah. Just knowing how vividly Jeremiah expressed his discontent to God made me really appreciate the honesty of scripture, and how God is able to handle any criticism I can throw at him. That alone is a credit to his love which could put him in a paradigm all his own.

The narrator is pleasant to listen to; very straightforward without being overbearing.

Run with the Horses is easily one of my all-time favorites.

As a pastor, I’m somewhat embarrassed to say that reading Jeremiah and Lamentations has always been done with a bit of drudgery! Thanks to Eugene Peterson’s masterfully written summary of the extraordinary life of Jeremiah, my soul has been inspired and deeply challenged. I will read Jeremiah and Lamentations in the future with fresh eyes and an enlarged heart!

Soul inspiring
