No matter how we travel, and whether we realise it or not, we're all searching for moments — those little events or experiences which stay with us long after the majority of the tour, ride or cruise has faded into a vague memory of places, meals and hours on the road. They don't happen on every trip and your moments are likely to be very different to mine, but if we are lucky, those are the jewels we return with.

After a long, hard winter of bike preparation, dreams of new adventures, and romps in the snowy woods, I was eventually able to head east for a date with some of Newfoundland's wild and beautiful roads. My vehicle of choice? My trusty (and recently rebuilt) 1972 Moto Guzzi Eldorado. April in Newfoundland? It does make you wonder at my sanity, doesn't it? But there are benefits to early season travel.

On my return, a new bike arrived. At first in pieces, the 2000 Moto Guzzi Quota was eventually road-worthy then put through its paces on a lengthy mid-summer tour across the prairies to Alberta on an eight thouand kilometre shake-down run.

And then, a scooter? What in the world was I thinking. Listen and find out...

I’m thrilled (and honestly honored) to be the first to review this one. And I can’t believe four hours and twenty-six minutes can feel so short. Once again, Nick Adams proves that time bends a little when he’s the one telling the story.

From the book’s opening description—Newfoundland roads, rebuilt Guzzis, and a scooter he swears made sense at the time—you know you’re in for another ride through his uniquely grounded, self-effacing humor. The tone is vintage Nick: vivid, funny, and quietly reflective.

There’s one proclamation from his wife, Chris, about his mechanical “capabilities” that actually made me laugh out loud. (No spoilers, but you’ll know it when you hear it.) And this time, Nick touches on something I’ve never heard him speak about before—something personal, unexpectedly comforting, and deeply human. You’ll have to read it to know what I mean, but when you get there, it’s a moment of truth that many of us have felt and rarely put into words.

And, as always, there’s that voice. Steady, warm, wry—like the sound of good company at the end of a long day’s ride. With the holidays approaching, perhaps we can all petition Nick to narrate A Christmas Carol. I have no doubt his Scrooge would be the most civilized curmudgeon ever recorded. And while we’re at it, perhaps a touch of Dickens’s Oliver Twist, too. So, in the spirit of Oliver, please, Mr. Adams… may we have some more?
