I should’ve hugged her more. I should’ve loved her more. But the truth is, I couldn’t. Even after we were free, I couldn’t love them like that. Because I could never shake the feeling that each time they walked away from me, it would be the last time I saw them.

The only way I knew how to show them I cared was to train them. And once I forced Irina to stop training, I didn’t have another way to love her. I just didn’t know how. So I made her leave.

Irina

I was supposed to die nine times already, at least. The nine ghosts of my opponents follow me around like reminders. They have stuck with me all this time.

I’m not supposed to be here. I was supposed to go out fighting. So I am doing nothing now. I am just existing. I am just doing it thousands of miles away from where I started. And I am doing it alone.

Then I meet a man I could fall in love with in a blink. And I have to make a decision. Should I blink?

Eason

Every morning there is a choice. To get up or not. That’s my choice. To go on or give in. And on most days—recently, at least—I get up and go on. But it’s never gonna be enough. Ever. Just breathing is hard.

Then I meet a girl who is so incredibly sweet. So perfect and pretty and innocent that the pain in my chest fades when she’s around.

Until I find out who she killed on that fateful day seven years ago.

Loved this book on audio,I reread Sick Heart right as I was starting this second book. I love how each book in the series is satisfying on its own, but the big picture is spectacular. Thank you Julie for your imagination, conspiracy theories, storytelling and prolific output and the best author notes in the history of novels!!!

I’m a JA Huss super fan and this book enthralled me.

I love the added voices. That gave the characters more depth and substance in my mind. It provided intimacy to the conversations of the different characters. The series is so compelling. I can't wait for the next release. I've been binge listening to a lot of your series works and can't wait till this next release.

The insight to the emotions of the characters was so detailed.

Sick Hate was so so good!! I can’t wait for the next one. Julie is magnificent at story lines. I will always buy what she writes. The narration was the best! Don’t miss out on the Sick Heart/Hate world.

I didn’t want it to end!

so this isn't nearly as intense as Sick Heart, it's all about Irinas life 7 years after their escape. It starts slow and it ended way differently than I thought it would. I love hearing about her journey and how much she grows as a person throughout the book and how her views on life change. Also Easons character grows quite a bit as well. This isn't a sexy book at all. it has 2 very short and more sweet scenes, but Irina is very innocent in that sense so I think steamy scenes wouldn't fit here. The end does have a few twists that are very JA Huss and one of the many reasons I love her writing. She knows how to draw you in and keep you engaged. I can't wait for book 3, I have a feeling it will be intense like book 1 and I can't wait to listen to it!

Also some people think it felt rushed and open ended because she had to meet a deadline in the EOBS. I don't feel that at all, I think she set up for book 3 perfectly. I wouldn't have known she had to leave things out I'd she hadn't mentioned it at the end, and I think some people are just looking for things to pick on. The story isn't lacking at all IMO.

If you are a fan of JA Huss's writing style like I am, you will like this book. She is one of the few Authors that I will use a credit on without hesitation and she's never once let me down. I have listened to all but 2 of her newest books and I'm about to start one now lol. Just read this, I promise you will love the Characters by the end too!

I love Irina and Eason 😍
