Is our sun behaving differently from other stars? When an amateur astronomer discovers something strange on telescopic solar pictures, an explanation must be found. Is it merely artifact? Or has he found something totally unexpected? An expert international crew is hastily assembled, a spaceship is speedily repurposed, and the foursome is sent on the ride of their lives. What challenges will they face on this spur-of-the-moment mission to our central star?
What awaits all of them is critical, not only for understanding the past, but even more so for the future of life on Earth.

There are preciously few sci-fi books with the solid science background and Morris delivers on that front. Andy Weir is currently the unsurpassed master of the genre. On the whole, I liked the Hole, I liked Silent Sun too, the Ice Moons series was less mature, but the science was still pretty good.
On the other hand, the writing is lagging behind and character development barely existent. Don't get me wrong - it improved since the Ice Moons, the characters there were just atrocious. Here, they are only bland and uninteresting - not to mention the idea to send to space septuagenarians with no previous space flight experience, bordering on ridiculous. I'm wondering if the AI is not the best character of the Solar System series.
The narrator doesn't give the book a favor. The septuagenarian in question sounds senile and silly. Why would you send to space a slapstick character with no experience?
To sum up: give it a try if you like hard sci-fi, but get prepared for disappointing characters.
