Push past the curtains of your rational, safe world and explore the unnameable horrors living in the darkest corners of our conscience. This is the realm of monsters and shifting shadows, where a single wrong step can plunge you into a terrifying fight for your life, where…

- Something mimics human voices as it lures you into the woods.

- A corpse had gone missing from its drawer in the morgue.

- A friend's eyes are unnaturally bright as they approach you in the dark.

Just little snippets of horror and suspense. a few have clear endings but most don't. A great way to keep your imagination running trying to figure what happened next. Did the woman beat the lake monster? Or did it claim another set of eyes? We may never know how Darcy Coates might have ended the story but that's what makes this such a great book. Your imagination gets to fill in the ending

This is a great compilation of fun scary short stories. If you grew up watching shows like AYATD and Goosebumps, you will enjoy these. Some have fun twists, many are what you expect, but that doesn't mean they're not enjoyable. Overall a fun listen.

Wooooow. This was awesome and I found myself saying for most stories "Man, she should make this a novel." Awesome! Hoping she has other short story collections!

Small Horrors: A Collection of Fifty Creepy Stories by Darcy Coates is an interesting concept for any horror fan looking for a quick scare. As the title suggests, you get fifty bite-sized tales, and on the whole, it's a decent way to pass the time. The strength of this collection lies in its brevity; you can easily read a story or two while waiting in line or before bed, and a few of them genuinely manage to get under your skin with a clever twist or a genuinely unsettling premise. When Coates hits her stride, her ability to craft a chilling atmosphere in just a few pages is impressive.

However, the sheer volume of stories means the quality is, unfortunately, inconsistent. For every story that delivers a memorable jolt, there's another that feels like a half-formed idea or a predictable rehash of a classic trope. Many of the tales end just as they are getting started, which makes sense given their length, but it can also leave you feeling a little unsatisfied. It's a fun collection to dip in and out of, but it never quite reaches the level of a truly great anthology. Ultimately, it's a solid, but not spectacular, read for a rainy afternoon.
