Can rookie Cam’s sunshine steal veteran Dawson’s thunder?

Kicker Dawson Hall is ready to leave his past in the dust. His last season was catastrophically bad, with the distraction of his divorce and discovering that his father-in-law wasn’t managing his money—he was stealing it, instead.

He signs with the Toronto Thunder, poised for his redemption arc, but he’s grumpy and frustrated he has to undertake one at all. He should be better than this. He is better than this.

The new rookie punter’s hero worship might be just another annoyance, but Cameron Green is sweet and kind and more than a little naïve. He’s a country boy suddenly dumped amongst all the skyscrapers, with no idea of how the real world can chew him up and spit him out. It’s practically Dawson’s duty to mentor him and if Dawson soaks up a little of his sunshine, too?

Well, nobody could blame him for that. Not after the year’s he’s just had.

But when Dawson starts craving more and more of Cam, his crush dangerously teetering into passion kind of territory, he’s forced to not just confront his own past, full of disappointment and distrust, but his future, too.

He wants his redemption, and that perfect vision of a season feels just within reach. But it turns out he doesn’t just want Cam for single season—even if it’s everything he believed he wanted—he wants Cam for every season.

Do I know anything at all about football? No, I don't, but I still devoured this book because I was living for this relationship dynamic. I love how chill Cam was about everything and just let Dawson get there when he got there. It was low angst and high heat. There was football, but I just know balls were kicked. It was a great time. I can't wait for the next one.

This was a reread for me and I loved the narrator for this. He has a clear differentiation between MCs and I loved the voice he chose for the lawyer. Absolute perfection.

Amazing Narration

While I had already read this book, it was fun to listen to it. Overall, I enjoyed the narrator. Cam’s voice was much younger than I had anticipated. Dawson’s was more accurate for me.

Loved their story. The old vs new guard creating a love match.

Love Beth’s stories

I just love it when one of the MCs is completely oblivious to being in love. They fight it so hard that they don’t even know what hit them😂

Dawson was so adamant about not loving again after his messy divorce, that when it finally dawned on him he was in love with Cam, he wanted to kick himself. It was so obvious to everyone but him that he was completely gone for the rookie.

And who can blame him? Cam was an absolute delight of a person. His bright personality and sweet smile was always aimed at Dawson. His hero worship and constant uplifting of Dawson’s ability would make anyone fall for him.

Cam always seemed to know what to tell Dawson to get him out of his head. Regardless of Dawson’s belief that he had no one, he always had Cam.

Little by little Cam wove his way into Dawson’s heart without him knowing and once he was there, Dawson couldn’t let him go. He knew he had found his person and would do anything for him.

I loved this book. I loved that Cam was patient with Dawson. Despite Dawson swearing it was just a hookup, Cam knew there could something more between them and he didn’t want to miss out on it.

Can’t wait for the next book! We need Nate’s story 😁

Having had a bad season, a bad divorce and a bad year, Dawson is starting anew in Toronto. Cam is the rookie on the team and grumpy Dawson becomes his protector and guide.
They slowly glide from friendship into more and build a relationship that becomes a safe space for them both.

A lovely story about two people who just fit together and find each other at the right time. With great supporting characters this becomes a fantastic listen as Mr Stark does an amazing job of bringing these characters to life.
