Discover a brilliant story of love, danger, courage and betrayal, from the internationally bestselling author of The Liberation. Brilliantly narrated by Imogen Church, reader for Paula Hawkins, Ruth Ware and Kate Furnivall’s The Liberation.

Could you kill someone? Someone you love?

Paris, 1938. Twin sisters are divided by fierce loyalties and by a terrible secret. The drums of war are beating and France is poised, ready to fall. One sister is an aviatrix, the other is a socialite and they both have something to prove and something to hide.

The Betrayal is an unforgettably powerful, epic story of love, loss and the long shadow of war, perfect for listeners of Santa Montefiore and Victoria Hislop.

This book was a departure from my typical thriller/,mystery novels. At first, I wasn't sure if I could keep up with the characters' French and German names pronounced with respective French and German accents. But, when my ear adjusted to them, it became second nature. I think Imogen Church did a great job of narrating a story that required enormous insight into each character, and she gave each of them his/her own distinct voice and emotional pitch. Her performance added to the enjoyment of the book for me.

The story was engrossing and tightly woven. Meticulous historical features made it all the more genuine and believable. If necessary, my suggestion is: rewind and go back for a second listen to any part missed or not understood. Sometimes I would get distracted and miss a vital conversation or description that would later fall into place. There is so much intrigue and intricacy that the listener must stay focused. This only made it more rewarding to get to the end and say, "Ahhh, now I see..." and, "Darn, I'm sad to see it end..." I'll be looking for another Kate Furnivall book in the near future.

Wonderful story and performance

I got this because of the reviews. If I didn't spent a credit on it I would not have finished it. After listening to the whole book I would not have spent a credit on it if given the opportunity again. The narrator did fine, just not much to work with.

Not worth a credit

A good book, but the narration is slow with lengthy pauses. I was about ready to abandon listening but then tried it at 1.25 speed. It made a huge difference for the good.

Had to increase speed

I was mesmerized from the beginning, glued to it from the beginning and finished in 2 days, good story, amazing narrator.

Loved loved loved both The Betrayal and The Survivors - and am looking forward to her next audible release. These two books were the the best of two literary worlds - WW2 Historical Fiction and Mystery/Thriller. Imogen Church also does an incredible job of narrating.

Please keep 'em coming Kate Furnivall and Imogen Church!!!!

Waiting for her next audible book to come out!!!
