Dennis Wilson (Sticks) takes you on a gripping tale of life in the Projects. What began as innocent kids in a bicycle gang eventually became something much more. But family is not always what it seems in this raw, entertaining mystery. A really solid tale. I quite enjoyed the writing on this story. It held my interest throughout and wanting to hear the conclusion. It did feel a bit thin at times, and I can't explain better than that right now, just a bit light. However, this also prevented it from losing pace or being bogged down, so it worked well.
At first, the narration was a bit uncomfortable, but I slowed it down just a touch and soon got swept up in it and had no other complaints. A Decent read that will have me checkingnout more by the author.

A totally absorbing tale of the lives of a group.of youngsters with little else going for them, drawn together in close friendship through a club, the Bicycle Gang. Their story is told by one of the member, Dennis Wilson, known as Sticks, who joined the gang aged 12, married and became a father at 16, divorced at 17, returning to his hometown and his friends after being drafted. Moving between the present and an ongoing murder investigation of one of the gang's most loved members, and the past life stories of each of the 'family' of members, the whole sad story feels both real and inevitable. These characters became real people generating genuine emotional responses in this reader.

Only one irritation with this audio - why, when the story is told by an insider, Sticks, as both boy then man about a group comprising, with one exception, of youths is the book's narrator female? Seems silly to me. Cassandra Arnold did a reasonable job of reading but it jarred each time she referred to herself as Sticks. Perhaps it is because she narrated the earlier book in this series, the Faye-Lynn Johnson Mysteries, Johnson being a detective who also appears in this book.

My thanks to the rights holders of The Bicycle Gang, who, at my request, freely gifted me with a complimentary copy.
This is a riveting stand alone read and recommended.

The Bicycle Gang is an interesting novel by Ricky A Corum. I found the story to be realistic and sad. A group of boys formed a Bicycle Gang and it lead to a life of crime. I found the story to be dark and I thought it was an insight into the projects.

The Bicycle Gang tell of the nitty gritty story of growing up on the poor side of the tracks. I love how it tells the truth how a kid can go from petty theft to grand larceny when they don't have anyone to admire and steer them onto the right path. This storyline deals with kids who grow up fighting to survive the mean streets and how some overcome the odds while others do not. I really enjoyed listening to how each member of the gang started and how they turned out as adults. Cassandra Arnold does a great job as narrator. This is my honest unbiased review that I am voluntarily leaving of my own volition.
