At twenty-nine, Valancy Stirling is an “old maid” trapped within the tedium and troubles of family life. She escapes by building the imaginary world of the Blue Castle.

When she is diagnosed with a serious heart ailment, Valancy realizes she has never been happy. She doesn’t want to waste what time she has left. She seizes the moment. This catalyst for change leads her on towards relationships and entanglements far beyond what she could have predicted, including with a mysterious man known as Barney Snaith.

This is one of the few works by Lucy Maud Montgomery written for adults.

Very sweet romance - characters grow on you and great descriptions of nature. Good read. It starts slow though.

Very sweet

Anne of Green Gables and the subsequent books have been my favorites for most of my life. When my friend insisted I read this book, I went in prepared to hate it for not being about Anne. But the beauty of expression I love so much are just as much here as in thee Green Gables series, if not more so, since it's geared to adults more than Anne initially was. The performance was well done, and I absolutely recommend this as a listen.

Turns out, I CAN forgive it not being Anne

The reader sounds like an AI voice and mispronounced words. It was a little robotic.

Narrator did a wonderful job!
And I love the writing of Lucy Maud Montgomery. I don’t usually read a book more than once, but this was my third time through, and it won’t be my last .

Such such a wonderful story

I found this so relatable in my life. I am 69 and can’t believe how I could relate to her. Amazing.
