Liked the CBT-I approach and recognition of possible benefits of Buddhist-derived techniques, such as body scan and mindfulness meditation. Interesting thoughts about sleep restriction as a way of getting control of when to sleep and for how long. Positive psychology ideas (eg gratitude lists, exercise, social networking) also nicely discussed. Makes a convincing case that cure is feasible with practical and feasible behavioral changes. Good insight into when to seek help from professionals and what sort of self-help projects might be worthwhile. Sorry to say getting a sufferer to keep proper records and self-help to a cure might be a tall order. But that does not mean the book’s prescription is less than state of the art. Thankfully the approach is balanced, with plenty of reliance on findings from Western medicine as well as things like yoga, Tai Chi and Qigong. Properly distinguishes sleep from sedation with alcohol or Ambien.
