Mary Alice Monroe, New York Times bestselling author of the Lowcountry Summer trilogy, once again touches hearts with her lyrical, poignant, and moving novel The Butterfly’s Daughter!

Every year, the monarch butterflies - las mariposas - fly more than two thousand miles on fragile wings to return to their winter home in Mexico. Now Luz Avila makes that same perilous journey south as she honors a vow to her beloved abuela - the grandmother who raised her - to return her ashes to her ancestral village. As Luz departs Milwaukee in a ramshackle old VW Bug, she finds her heart opened by a series of seemingly random encounters with remarkable women. In San Antonio, however, a startling revelation awaits: a reunion with a woman from her past. Together, the two cross into Mexico to await the returning monarchs in the little village Abuela called home, but they are also crossing a border that separates past from present . . . and truth from lies.

I have enjoyed all of Alice Mary
Monroe’s series. Especially the way she educates
us about the turtle nests. The turtle hospital. I have vacationed in Topsail and have been to the Turtle Hospital on Topsail island,
the Karen Beasley Rescue and Rehabilitation Turtle Hospital. You even put the hospital in one of your books. You have also educated us about ocean birds.

With Butterfly girl you again teach us about the Monarch Butterfly and it’s precious need for Milk weed. But more important you open our eyes to the dangerous journey the Monarch Butterflies go through to the Mountains of Mexico during the winter. How you weave the journey of a young woman trying to find herself and her journey with the Journey of the Monarch. Is just so beautiful. I live in Philly and one year a friend took me to Cape May, NJ. The day was perfect! It was around Sept. 23rd, my Birthday, and we went to the light house. It was one of the most beautiful moments in my life. I watch the butterflies fly past me and the lighthouse and it was a ribbon of color that jumped as caught the Jet stream. It was amazing. I have wanted to go back for many years. Especially cause I want my wife to have the same experience.
Unfortunately the Monarch Butterflies are
In danger. Now they tag the monarchs. When I asked when would be a good time to come to watch the monarchs dice Into the jet stream. They told me it really does not happen like that anymore.

Reading your book Butterfly Daughter brought the experience of watching the Monarchs back to me.

It is a beautiful and well written story. You get absorbed and you never want it to end!!

As with most great stories that include multiple characters, the background has to be “set up” before the reader is drawn in. Once you get to know the characters in the Butterfly’s Daughter it’s hard to stop listening. The true & fascinating Migration of the Monarch Butterfly is intertwined in this great book adding extra interest and hooking the reader. Fantastic book!

The story just gets better and better

I enjoyed the character development of Luz and how she came full circle back home like a butterfly.

I loved this book so much!!! The Story Line Between the Hispanic Culture and The Migration of The Monarchs was Almost Other Worldly or Just Plain Magical!! Mary Alice Monroe has always Been at the Top of My Favorite Authors List but This Story line Just Made Her Queen in My Opinion!! Don’t miss out on This Book on Audible!!! - Peggy Smith
