It seemed that nothing in life had been easy. From an early age, Max Martin was pegged as different since he was smart. School and college had been tough, and working for the Government was a disheartening disaster. Suffering from a form of PTSD, Max manages to make it to retirement only to be forced to deal with cancer. After almost three years of exhaustive treatment, Max is pronounced cancer free and embarks on his long-term goals which he had vowed to pursue if he survived. Building his off-grid sanctuary, Max lives a peaceful life alone in the woods giving himself the moniker of curmudgeon. His life is interrupted by worldly events forcing Max to survive truly alone without the help of the outside world.

This was a prepper story with a different kind of ending. Some people will like the ending and some will not, depending on their outlook. I am one that liked it.

Interesting Short Story.
