When the lights go out, can you survive?

For years, a few have warned that a day of reckoning was coming, but those warnings went unheeded and even mocked. Then that day came...

When Nicholas McNeil, a father and dedicated husband, turned out the lights in his suburban home Sunday night, they would never turn on again. During the early Monday morning hours, a spectacular and well-coordinated attack destroys the grid and brings the United States to its knees.

Nicholas was a man who had heeded the warnings to a degree, but most did not. With a society unprepared and a government overwhelmed, panic turns to chaos and soon violence.

Fighting for what resources are still available, Nicholas and his family also find themselves fighting to survive as society turns on itself.

I really enjoyed this story. Maybe cause I grew up in the places featured in this story. Vista CA, Carlsbad CA, San Marcos CA, San Diego CA, La Jolla CA and camp Pendleton. Just cool hearing the places. Great story. Definitely getting the second one.

Really enjoyed it

Any additional comments?

The narrator's pace was pretty fast. I hope this is part of a series as it was left quite open at the end. Overall, I enjoyed it.

I'm hoping this is part of a series

What did you love best about The Defiant: Grid Down?

A very realistic storyline for what the world would look like in the aftermath of an EMP attack

Any additional comments?

This book could have easily been twice the length. I know there are several books to follow but couldn't help but to have felt cheated. It's a terrific story but needs to be extended in each book. The potential is endless.

Good story, too short

Would you try another book from John W. Vance and/or Joseph Morton?

Probably yes.

Would you recommend The Defiant: Grid Down to your friends? Why or why not?

Yes. Though the plot has holes and fails to suspend disbelief, the writing & character development are very good, character interaction is believable, and the technology described seemed well-researched. The narrator's changes in cadence and vocal style between characters and scenes complimented the writing such that I didn't care one whit about the plot.

Have you listened to any of Joseph Morton’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Not yet.

Was The Defiant: Grid Down worth the listening time?

It absolutely was.

Good book. Good narrator.
