The thrilling conclusion to the New York Times bestselling Tearling trilogy.

In less than a year, Kelsea Glynn has transformed from a gawky teenager into a powerful monarch. As she has come into her own as the Queen of the Tearling, the headstrong, visionary leader has also transformed her realm. In her quest to end corruption and restore justice, she has made many enemies—including the evil Red Queen, her fiercest rival, who has set her armies against the Tear.

To protect her people from a devastating invasion, Kelsea did the unthinkable—she gave herself and her magical sapphires to her enemy—and named the Mace, the trusted head of her personal guards, regent in her place. But the Mace will not rest until he and his men rescue their sovereign, imprisoned in Mortmesne.

Now, as the suspenseful endgame begins, the fate of Queen Kelsea—and the Tearling itself—will finally be revealed.

I read the first two books in this series, and listened to the third. I love the books and like the narrator for female roles. However, the female voice in general simply lacks the range needed for the variety of male characters in this book. Most of the men sounded either like small children or brain damaged, becoming an annoyance or, at times, unintended comic relief. This detracted somewhat from an otherwise thoroughly enjoyable listening experience.

This book needs more than one narrator

So many parallels to current events. Sure wish I had a sapphire to make change!

I listened to all of the books, they were filled with imagination and story lines. Began to enjoy the characters. Not a fan of the bouncing back an forth between timelines. A fan of the courageous lead, the Queen, but the end really felt dropped.

Unhappy with the ending

The performance was awesome but the story was disappointing. The ending was unpredictable but it left me thinking less of Kelsey. I have loved Kelsey since book 1 because she is so willing to sacrifice for the good of people. This book had me hooked with its twist and turns until the very end. Unfortunately this ending showed Kelsey as hating the sacrifice she made for her people. I wish the author would have written the ending with Kelsey being proud of her sacrifice because that would have made this a great book.

I wanted so many characters to have their stories explained. Some were dismissed very quickly. Additionally the performers accent threw me off all the time. William Tear was from England and had a British accent in the previous book however in this book he sounded like he was from Ireland. Many characters sounded like they were Irish. Nothing wrong just threw me off from listening to the previous books. I like the series however this was the least liked book of the series. I’d wish more explanations about the sapphire, where it came from and why did the Tears have it? What made them so special? Was Katie still tear after she changed the time? So many questions left unanswered.

It wasn’t what I expected
