An old man's hazy memory and a Polaroid snapshot are all Chee has to go on, but they are enough to send him deep into an underworld of murder and revenge when a shootout erupts between two strangers at the Shiprock Wash-O-Mat. One man dies, and the other drives off but not before showing old Joseph Joe a photograph of the man he is looking for. It's not much of a lead for Sergeant Chee, but it's enough to put him on the killer's trail.

Hillerman and Guidall take you away from the routines of everyday life. His descriptions spoken by Guidall make you almost feel as if you can see the spacious country that surrounds Chee. Two incredibly gifted people I feel sad leaving at the end of each story.

I loved it! Now trying to decide on which in the series to choose next. What a wonderful, difficult task!

My first Hillerman/Guidal listen.

I have always liked this author for his descriptive writing of the Navaho ways. He brigs you into the story like you are a part of the Navaho way.

I enjoyed this Jim Chee. Good mystery. I liked the social commentary as much or maybe more than usual. Hillerman has good insights into Navajo and White culture which are a good background for the story. Guidall is an excellent narrator as always.

Another great Hillerman
