Inspired by Picasso’s great masterpiece Guernica, New York Times bestselling author Karen Robards returns with a riveting story of love, intrigue, deception and bravery in the face of war…

On an April day in 1937, the sky opens and fire rains down upon the small Spanish town of Guernica. Seventeen-year-old Sibi and her family are caught up in the horror. Griff, an American military attaché, pulls Sibi from the wreckage, and it’s only the first time he saves her life in a span of hours. When Germany claims no involvement in the attack, insisting the Spanish Republic was responsible, Griff guides Sibi to lie to Nazi officials. If she or her sisters reveal that they saw planes bearing swastikas, the gestapo will silence them—by any means necessary.

As war begins to rage across Europe, Sibi joins the underground resistance, secretly exchanging information with Griff. But as the scope of Germany’s ambitions becomes clear, maintaining the facade of a Nazi sympathizer becomes ever more difficult. And as Sibi is drawn deeper into a web of secrets, she must find a way to outwit an enemy that threatens to decimate her family once and for all.

Masterfully rendered and vividly capturing one of the most notorious episodes in history, The Girl from Guernica is an unforgettable testament to the bonds of family and the courage of women in wartime.

Don't miss Karen Robards' gripping and twisty new thriller, SOME MURDERS IN BERLIN, that will leave you questioning everything...

What a good book! The author did an amazing job in describing the bombing/massacre in Guernica. It made me feel that I was right there. Also the bombing in Germany was done just as well. Her writing, for me, was so vivid I felt like I was there.
The book moved right along and kept me wanting to listen all the time. It even got me going out for a second or third walk just to keep "reading"
I learned a lot with this book. Learning about the lengths the Nazi's went to as far as propoganda, their spin on events; the building of their planes. And again, the massacre at Guernica. The author just did such a amazing job at describing it.
The narration was very well done but I do have one complaint and that was the pronunciation of Guernica. The correct pronunciation is Guer-NEE-ca, not Guer-ni-CUH. It did not ruin the overall wonderful performance, but it did make me flinch when it was said.
It is a book I will highly recommend.

I have read/listened to about 300 books of World War II historical fiction. This was among the best. This book has it all. I was holding my breath when the heroine held her breath; it affected me viscerally. I wanted it to end, but I didn’t want it to end. It has everything. Fast paced action, family love, history, art, a strong female lead and a little bit of romance in for fun. Read this! You won’t be disappointed.

The second WWII book I’ve read by the author and it’s just as good if not better than the Black Swan of Paris. Looking for my next read from the author now.
