Johnny Harris is home again, his too-tight jeans and damn-your-eyes belligerence honed to perfection by a ten-year stretch in federal prison for murder. Now he’s out on parole and ready for the job Rachel Grant has promised him to help him begin a new life. Unlike the rest of the town, Rachel has always believed in her former student’s innocence. But one thing has changed.

The sullenly handsome boy she remembers is still sullen, still handsome - but no longer a boy. And now the small Kentucky town is alive with gossip and whispers of a scandal, as friendship turns to passion and Rachel abandons a lifetime of propriety in the ex-con’s arms. Then the killer strikes again. All evidence points to Johnny Harris, but Rachel knows he is innocent. And she knows she is next - as a shattering truth is uncovered and dark passions explode in the relentless summer heat.

Another great story by Karen Robards! She has a way of telling a story so that you can't stop listening/reading. Enjoyed the characters Rachel & Johnny and how their story unfolds.

Quite a line!

The plot was interesting and overall it was a good read. I really liked the main characters, Johnny and Rachel. They had a sweet love story and were truly soulmates. Rachel was described as a small, petite woman but I Loved how she was depicted as a strong female character. Narration was a bit annoying. Voice seemed much older and didn’t fit with the mood of the story.

Romantic mystery

I am a sucker for the underdog. This book gives the underdog a shot whike adding a little mystery to the mayhem. I really enjoyed it. The narrator did a great job with all of the voices. Her read made it even better.

Bad guy gone good! (Good read)

I really did enjoy the story. The only thing I'd tweak a little is the narration. I would've preferred a second narrator, a male preferably, to do the more masculine voices. The main narrator was good but she sounded silly trying to do manly voices.

Great Story, Narrative Improvements

It was just ok for me. I found it hard to like Johnny. His character was over written, too tough too macho. I had a very hard time picturing Rachel, the lead female. the author made her sound just ugly.

It was just ok.
