New York Times bestselling author Karen Robards continues her penchant for "fantastic storytelling" (RT Book Reviews) with this next heart-pumping romantic suspense novel, the tale of a brilliant ornithologist trapped on the remote Attu Island in Alaska, fighting for her life - and that of a handsome stranger - before they're swallowed up in darkness forever.

Would you consider the audio edition of Darkness to be better than the print version?

No. It's always unfortunate when a narrator ruins a good story. This happens to be one of those times. The female lead character came off as whiny and annoying, the inflections and constant breathlessness at the end of each sentence made me cringe. The male lead came off as one dimensional and harsh.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No. I actually had to force myself to finish listening to it.

Any additional comments?

I loved the plot but will need to read a hard copy version to get a better view of the characters. Both main characters came off as incredibly annoying because of the way the narrator read them. I always enjoy Karen's books, but this one turned me off because of the narration (and an over excessive use of adjectives describing everything down to a rock...)

The book was ok but likely could have been 1/2 as long. the first 25% is set up and I skipped many of those chapters. Descriptions tended to be lengthy and unnecessary. the voice actor was good

Excellent book. Enjoyed every minute of it. Captured your attention from the very beginning and kept it.

The action packed story telling was top notch. Just enough sex to tell the story.

Darkness was almost an engrossing thriller that gave me shivers in spite of listening to this book during a heatwave. Of course I can't imagine why a sane professional woman would want to study anything that close to the Arctic circle.

I would have enjoyed this book if only there had been a few lighter moments to balance out the death, destruction and unrelenting terror. Also, the romance seemed a bit far fetched; who has time for lust and love while trying to evade professional killers?
