In the Gothic towers of the cathedral of Notre-Dame - which has been subjected to decades of degradation and neglect - lives its bell ringer, Quasimodo. Persecuted as wicked and pilloried for his broken appearance, he’s shown kindness only by the alluring Esmeralda, an outsider herself, who fills Quasimodo’s heart with a hope and devotion beyond reason. When she falls victim to the lies of the vengeful and lustful Archdeacon Claude Frollo, only Quasimodo can save her from the gallows. In sanctuary, looming high above Paris, their fates entwine.

The Hunchback of Notre-Dame stands as a tribute to the medieval city Victor Hugo loved and to a vulnerable monument he feared would crumble to dust.

Revised edition: Previously published as The Hunchback of Notre-Dame, this edition of The Hunchback of Notre-Dame (AmazonClassics Edition) includes editorial revisions.

All parts of this grand novel provide the reader with visual, cultural, historical perspective on an era as seen from another era. plausible and understandable for XXIst readers who take the time and have the patience to let their cognition discover and reconstruct previos time. It's a transcendent work that points out how humanity has not changed throughout the centuries: ethics and truth symbolized by the disadvantaged, whether beautiful or monstrous. The politicians, royals, clergy and advantaged showing deplorable behaviour bringing death and destruction. The unreasoning populace bringing about rebellion without an ethical cause. Arquitectura and Literature are the observers and recorders of historical testimonials, which the Present wants to abolish and erase, replace with something new and inexperienced.
exciting, emotional, cinematographic
