I enjoyed this book. I hate the way females are treated back in those days (if true). I couldn't imagine being in an orphanage back then. Hard Luck Life for kids. Smoke taught Matt all he knew from Preacher and add his own found knowledge in experience during his time away from Preacher. Matt was definitely ready to face the world alone when he left Smoke. He even had $16,000 to help finance his wondering.
