The Little Mermaid (Danish: Den lille havfrue, literally: "the little sea lady") is a very well-known fairy tale by the Danish author Hans Christian Andersen about a young mermaid willing to give up her life in the sea and her identity as a mermaid to gain a human soul and the love of a human prince. The tale was first published in 1837 and has been adapted to various media, including musical theatre and animated film. But this tale is not the Disney version, all cleaned up and made pretty. This is the way Andersen wrote it. The Little Mermaid is indeed at the happy wedding of her beloved prince, but she is not the bride. And then she becomes a big bubble. Curious? Listen and find out what happens.

Extremely different from Walt Disney version but that's why I loved it so much. Love is a damning creature.

I've been meaning to read this story for ages now since I'm a big fan of the Disney version, which I knew going in was a more lighthearted version than the original.

I really enjoyed this version as it is more complex than the Disney version. While love is present, it is not the driving force that inspires The Little Mermaid to become a human and that was refreshing.

Phil Chenevert does a good job at carrying the story. I especially liked the way he impersonated the evil witch.

300 YEARS
Mermaids live to be about 300 years and than they become foam on the sea. I have not seen the Disney version, so I can not compare. She is a head strong girl who knows what she wants and does what it takes and she stays true to her self and her heart all the way to the end.
