When Death goes on strike, some rejoice—while others await the return of his icy grip—in this dark fantasy novel from the author of Mountain Man.

In the dead of winter, on a highway in Quebec, a man crashes his car and survives. In New York, a homeless person is run over by a bus and lives. A teenager jumps off a high-rise building in Tokyo and fails in her attempt to take her own life. All around the world, miracles like these are taking place. Death seems to have taken a holiday, and humanity breathes a sigh of relief.

But over the course of the next week, some people will begin to suspect the terrible truth behind these marvels. A handful will even search it out. One man will find it. In seven days, all hell will break loose—and nothing, living or dead, can escape its fury.

Like many others have said, trying to enjoy this book is difficult with this narrator. Its like listening to a story being told by the moviefone guy. But I have been listening to Blackmore's other books narratorated by R. C. Bray, who is awesome, so maybe the bar is set a little high....
Its a slow burn so far (only at chapter 12) but I'll give it a chance.

Trying to enjoy this but...

I loved the theme; it made me think about life and death. Loved, loved, loved the characters and accents. Especially the Newfie and Frank; Frank was one cool dude and funny as heck. I could have listened to the Newfie as a narrator! I was sorry it ended and wanted more.

It's true that the narrator had vocal fry at the beginning, but it either stopped or I didn't notice anymore. I thought his vocals were varied and were good matches with the characters.

Loved the Story, Loved the Narrator

At first I wasn't too sure about this book. After a few hours I was starting to feel like it was an adult version of that kids' movie Inside Out. I'm glad I kept going. It turned out to be a really good book. It was different, but good. The narrator is one I've never heard before, but did a very good job. Keith C. Blackmore hasn't disappointed me yet. I'm waiting for more of the Breeds series. I hope he continues with that one for sure. Anyhow, I do recommend this book. Just give it some time and you'll see.

Good book and quite entertaining.

So slow at first I stopped listening and moved on to another book. Picked it back up much later and the storyline began to get much better. Overall, an interesting premise for a story Makes you think of death a little differently maybe. A lot of extended and very graphic violence though.

Roller coaster book
