Millions of people have thrilled to the adventure of young Jim Hawkins and Long John Silver since the publication of Treasure Island in 1883. It has been dramatized countless times since its appearance. Treasure maps marked with an X, schooners, the Black Spot, tropical islands, and peglegged sailors with parrots on their shoulders: All these stereotypes of the buccaneer tale were the invention of R. L. Stevenson. But make no mistake about it...this novel is a masterpiece of plot development, character study, and sheer writing skill.

In this magnificent production, award winning narrator Charlton Griffin brings these unforgettable characters to life with a zest and clarity never before realized. Thrill to this timeless coming-of-age adventure story as you slip effortlessly into the atmosphere of 18th century England.

This is the second audiobook of Treasure Island that I’ve listened to in the past month. My negative comments of the first was the performance; the narrator was almost incomprehensible. Not so with this one, the narrator is excellent.

Only criticism of this version of Treasure Island is that there is to much dead air between chapters. I liked the music at the beginning and end of each chapter, but the wait for the next chapter is annoying.

Wonderfully narrated

What more could one ask of a classic adventure story, then sailing Pirates and buried treasure? Heroes, men of honor, and dastardly villains fill out a compelling yarn. The narrator draws the listener into the adventure, and makes the characters believable and right there sitting next to the listener.

This is at least my third read of Treasure Island and I’ve never enjoyed it so much. Probably because of the wonderful narration of Carlton Griffon, one of my favorite readers. This is an absolute classic book and it isn’t even necessary to offer a composite of the plot as it is so well known. If you haven’t read it, you’re missing a real treat. And perhaps you deserve a black spot.

Avoid a black spot!

First time diving into Treasure Island. Griffin does a good job narrating this master piece.

Wonderful narration of a delightful story of a boy and his adventures amongst pirates. Lots of famous names, you may have wondered from which originated, will be found in this little treasure.
