"Narrator Angela Dawe’s warm voice varies seamlessly to capture the many characters, their fear, fortitude, and, in some cases, vileness. There is nothing subtle about this adventure, but it is exhilarating and hard to resist." (Washington Post)

From the best-selling author of Prayers for Sale, Sandra Dallas' Westering Women is an inspiring celebration of sisterhood on the perilous Overland Trail.

"If you are an adventuresome young woman of high moral character and fine health, are you willing to travel to California in search of a good husband?"

It's February, 1852, and all around Chicago, Maggie sees postings soliciting "eligible women" to travel to the gold mines of Goosetown. A young seamstress with a small daughter, she has nothing to lose. She joins 43 other women and two pious reverends on the dangerous 2,000-mile journey west.

None are prepared for the hardships they face on the trek or for the strengths they didn't know they possessed. Maggie discovers she’s not the only one looking to leave dark secrets behind. And when her past catches up with her, it becomes clear a band of sisters will do whatever it takes to protect one of their own.

I absolutely loved this book. over the years I've made a read many books about history and women's challenges through it sometimes I can't finish because it's just too sad and not enough positive to balance it out but this book absolutely could not stop!!! I even offer to cut the grass so I could keep my headphones and listen. the narrator is phenomenal she changes voices just enough so you know the characters and with every tragedy she backs it up with a positive way to look and I never once got the feeling that she was just trying to overwhelm us with tragedy!!!! Loved it loved it loved it loved it

history adventure and a good dose of women empower

well written and kept my attention throughout the entire story with a few unexpected twists and turns and really makes you understand the hardships of people that came from the East to the West Coast back in the 1800s. I'm not sure the people today could endure the hardships that they did crossing a wagons and having oxen and Indian attacks.

the author did a very good job in the narrator Angela Dawe is one of my favorites. I will definitely get more books by this author this is the first book I've listened to written by Sandra Dallas.
